The Nut Butter Company Review

I bet you saw the title of this post and immediately clicked on it, because let’s be real, who doesn’t like nut butter?! πŸ˜› The Nut Butter Company is a company I came across on Instagram (check them out at @TheNutButterCompany)! Of course, being an avid lover of all sorts of nut butters, I decided to reach out to the company and ask if they could send some samples for me to review. They were more than willing to do so, so here I am with a review!

I was sent small jars of four of their nut butters: Cashew Honey Dark Chocolate, Walnut Brown Sugar Coconut, Almond Espresso Cinnamon, and Cashew Rosemary Shallot. Below is a short review of each flavor!

Cashew Honey Dark Chocolate:

Immediately when I saw the name of this one, I knew it would be the first one to try! This flavor has a smooth, creamier consistency than the other three in my opinion. I really enjoyed this one because I adore dark chocolate, and this flavor combination was to die for! This was probably one of my favorites of the four.

Walnut Brown Sugar Coconut:

This was the second one I tried. It definitely did not disappoint one bit! Over the past couple years I have taken a liking to the coconut flavor (which I actually used to find disgusting), so I thoroughly enjoyed this butter. The consistency of this one was chunkier than the others — which I really like! Chunks = love. πŸ™‚ This was also one of my favorites of the four butters I received!

Almond Espresso Cinnamon:

I actually only just tried this one yesterday because I’m not a huge fan of the coffee/espresso flavor in general. But earlier this week I decided to try and slowly get myself to like coffee (why I’m doing this, I have no idea :P). That being said, I decided to finally give this one a go! All I have to say is that this flavor was pretty darn good! It has a great flavor ratio, if that makes sense. The consistency of this one was smooth and creamy.

Cashew Rosemary Shallot:

This was the final of the four that I tried, and again, I only just tried it yesterday. Judging by the name, I was a little bit on the leery side. The flavor combo sounded a little different to me for some reason. Although, I’m usually all for trying weird combos because a lot of the time they actually turn out being strange-but-good combos! So with that in mind I went for it. In all honesty, it was probably my least favorite of the group, BUT that doesn’t mean I didn’t like it! This was also more of a smooth consistency, but it seemed a little thicker than the others. But all in all, I enjoyed this flavor, and if you’re into a little extra spice, you will like this flavor!

Finally, I would like to end with an overall review! One thing I really like about these flavors is that they’re unique! They’re not just your regular old peanut butter or almond butter (although sometimes simple tastes amazing)! These are some flavor combinations that I have never thought of before, but I really, really like them!

Again, I truly want to thank everyone over at The Nut Butter Company for their generosity in sending me these samples, and I strongly encourage you to go check them out at http://www.thenutbuttercompany.com/!

Some of My Current Favorites

Woofta! It’s been a little while since I’ve posted on here! I’ve been pretty busy with classes, work, physical therapy, and observing at physical therapy appointments for the past month or so. But good news — I graduated from Physical Therapy a few weeks ago, and I can no officially run pretty much pain-free without a knee brace! (For those of you who don’t know, I injured my IT Band back in November). Anyway, there have been multiple instances where I had plenty of time to at least do a quick post on here, but honestly I am always to lazy #collegeproblems πŸ˜›

Today I figured that I should probably really get on that, so here I am! I don’t really have an actual plan or something, like a recipe, to post about, so I just decided to post about some of my recent favorite food/health products!

image1

We’ll just start out with this picture above because they look cute. πŸ™‚ These are some pancakes I made yesterday before my workout! (Check out my post about these on my Instagram page: @laurensfitlife)! I’m going to let you guys in on a little secret: I have a waffle/sandwich/panini make in my dorm. Illegally. Haha! I got it about a month and a half ago, and it was so worth it! I mean, I know I’m not going to get caught or get in trouble because the “health and safety” checks they do at my dorm building are totally lax. The RA literally knocks on the door, opens it, checks to see if the light on the fire alarm is still blinking, and then leaves. So I figured it wasn’t too risky to bring this into my dorm room. πŸ™‚ Anyway, I used Kodiak Cakes Power Cakes mix for these waffles. IF you have never heard of these, check them out at Target or online! I have used this mix a lot and I definitely swear by it! It makes the fluffiest yummiest waffles (or pancakes!) and they’re very versatile! You can just make them as it says on the box, or you can add your own touch to them too! I love doing both!

Next on the list of some of my recent favorites are these! Okay, I won’t lie — this popcorn has been one of mine (and my mom’s) HUGEST weaknesses pretty much since forever! I there are several different brands of bagged popcorn (all with minimal ingredients) that we both love! These are the really big bags that you can find at Costco! Confession time: I can finish off one of those bags by myself in three sittings (probably in a shorter amount of time if I let myself! haha).

Also, I am super super pumped about French Toast Crunch’s comeback! I would ramble on about his too, but I think you pretty much get the idea. πŸ˜›

And don’t get me started of that peanut butter. Salty. Caramal. Jif. Whips. That it all. πŸ™‚

And lastly in that picture, I also enjoy me some Cellucor C4 Fruit Punch preworkout on those days where I’m not feelin’ it! I love the flavor and it definitely gives me the tingles to make my workout that much better!

The last thing I’m going to post about today is Boom Chick A Pop Sweet Barbeque popcorn. Since I already talked about my undying love for popcorn, I won’t say too much about this. Usually I just stick with the regular popcorn flavor, but this flavor sounded pretty good, so I gave it a go! Boy, am I sure glad I did! This flavor combo is absolutely fabulous! I highly recommend you try this flavor, especially if you’re a barbeque fan!

Well, that’s all for today! I hope you enjoyed this random, pointless post! Haha πŸ˜›

Naturally Sweetened Peanut Butter Banana (Superfood) Granola

Hello all! πŸ™‚

Guess what?

Today I have a pretty dang nifty recipe to share with you. πŸ™‚

Who likes bananas? Or peanut butter? Or granola? Well how about a granola recipe that includes bananas and peanut butter?! Nothing better, right? Well actually there is! Not only does this recipe have bananas and peanut butter, but it’s also healthy, naturally sweetened(!!!), and even contains some superfood ingredients! But wait for it, it also tastes fabulous without sacrificing nutritional value.

If you’re like me, you can eat copious amounts of peanut butter, bananas, or pretty much anything with those flavors. Is it weird that I used to not be able to even stand bananas, yet now I would not be able to live without them? (I’ll answer that for myself: yes).

I’ve been wanting to make some homemade granola for months now because it’s been so long since I’ve done so. The other day I came across the perfect opportunity to create my own granola recipe (which I’ve never done before — I’ve only gone off of other recipes). I was scrolling through Instagram and found a post for a “Mystery Ingredient” Challenge (hosted by @f00dventures and @eatprayweights and sponsored by @monkeybutterpb). The mystery ingredient was none other than bananas! The reason I found this as the perfect opportunity is that I knew I wanted my granola to be sweetened with bananas. So I got my creative juices going today and I definitely had some fun!

Here you have it!

Ingredients:

  • 2 ripe bananas, mashed with fork
  • 3 Β½ cups Organic Rolled Oats
  • 3 tbsp Krema Natural Crunchy Peanut Butter
  • 2 tbsp Hemp Seeds
  • 1 tbsp Chia Seeds
  • 3 tbsp Unsweetened Shredded Coconut
  • Cinnamon, to taste
  • 3 tbsp Home Dehydrated Banana Chips, broken up (optional)
  • Additional Coconut Shreds (optional)

Directions:

  1. Preheat Oven to 375Β°F
  2. In a medium sized bowl, mash bananas with fork. Add the next 6 ingredients and stir.
  3. Spread granola mixture out on parchment paper lined pans (I used a total of 3 pans). **Make sure to spread the mixture very thin/spread out so that is toasts correctly.
  4. Bake for 13-16 minutes, rotating/mixing halfway through.
  5. Once the granola is done baking, add in broken up banana chips and more unsweetened shredded coconut. My banana chips were home dehydrated by my dad, so they’re naturally sweetened (no additional ingredients, just banana)! So if you use store bought dehydrated/freeze dried banana chips, make sure the only ingredient is banana.
  6. Place in an airtight container (make sure the granola has cooled off before doing this).
  7. Eat as cereal with some milk, top yogurt with it, eat it by the handful, or any other way you can think of!

Chocolate Peanut Butter Pretzel Protein Waffle

So I’m just going to cut to the chase here: I officially am in love with creating waffle recipes! I may even be unhealthily addicted.

photoj

Today was my first day of training for work, so what better way to fuel up than a waffle? (If you said none, you are very much correct πŸ™‚ ). For the past few days I’ve been thinking about making a pretzel-themed waffle and boy, am I glad I tried it! The texture wasn’t 110% perfect, but it definitely was not one bit bad at all! (If that whole comparison even makes sense haha). Either way, I feel that this recipe is worth sharing, so here you have it!

Ingredients:
β€’1/2 cup Oat Flour
β€’1 tbsp Chocolate PB2
β€’2 tbsp Chocolate Protein Powder
β€’1 tbsp Nonfat Plain Greek Yogurt
β€’1 tsp Coconut Oil
β€’5 tbsp Coconut Water
β€’about 1/4 cup Broken Up Pretzels

Directions:
1. Turn on waffle iron to preheat.
2. Mix together all ingredients. *Make sure you add the pretzel pieces only right before you pour the batter into the waffle iron to prevent them from getting too soggy.*
3. Pour mixture into waffle iron.
4. Top waffle with your desired ingredients! I topped mine with Walden Farms Pancake Syrup, hemp seeds, PB2, cinnamon, and a dollop of Walden Farms Marshmallow Fluff!!

I hope you enjoy this recipe! Let me know what you think if you try it. πŸ™‚

Peanut Butter S’mores Protein Waffle

Woofta! It’s been a little while since I’ve posted (really it’s only been about a week, but we’ll pretend like that’s a long time)! To be honest, the reason why I haven’t posted in the past week is because I haven’t really had anything to post about. πŸ˜› But guess what?! I definitely have something to post about now!

This morning I decided to go for a long run, which I haven’t done for about two weeks now. Lately I have been focusing much more on weight training and lifting than on cardio, and I’m absolutely loving it! Although, it was pretty nice to hit the roads again after my mini hiatus! At the beginning of my run I was feeling like what am I doing? I definitely don’t feel like going very far. But I just kept running because I know when going for a run it takes a little bit to get in the mood and kind of forget you’re actually running! So I kept going, and I ended up going farther than planned!

So what was I thinking about during my run that made me forget I was running, you may ask? I was thinking about breakfast! There was one thing I knew for sure: I wanted to try and create my own waffle recipe. My first idea (which I actually though of yesterday) was to make a strawberry rhubarb waffle, then later on yesterday I thought maybe I should try a peach waffle. But while running today, I decided you know, a s’mores waffle sounds delicious right now!

So what did I make after getting home and doing a 20 minute Crossfit AMRAP? You guessed it! I made a wonderful Peanut Butter S’mores Protein Waffle!

I apologize for the terrible quality of these pictures — I was a little more focused on how much I wanted to eat the waffle instead of trying to take superfantastic pictures!

This was my very first time making up my own waffle recipe, so I was excited, but I was really trying not to get my hopes up too much in case it didn’t turn out well. But low and behold, it turned out great! In fact, the texture even reminded me of s’mores because the outside was crispy and the inside was soft and a little gooey-ish! So without further ado, here is the recipe!

Peanut Butter S’mores Protein Waffle

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup Oat Flour (I grind up my own oats)
  • 1/2 Scoop (~22g.) Chocolate Whey Protein (or protein of choice)
  • 1 tbsp Chocolate PB2 (or other peanut flour)
  • 2 tbsp Walden Farms Marshmallow Fluff
  • 4 tbsp Skim Milk (or milk of choice)
  • 1 tbsp Nonfat Plain Greek Yogurt
  • Cinnamon to taste (if you’re like me, this is a pretty decent amount!)

Directions:

  • Turn on waffle iron..
  • In a bowl, mix together all ingredients
  • Spray with Coconut Oil spray (or any other kind).
  • Once waffle iron is preheated, pour in waffle mixture.
  • My waffle iron beeps when it’s done, but I kept my waffle in for a couple extra minutes.
  • Top with Walden Farms Marshmallow Fluff, Walden Farms Pancake Syrup, Chocolate PB2, Cacao Nibs, and Cinnamon! (You can play around with this to your liking πŸ™‚ )
  • Enjoy!

If you try this recipe out, let me know what you think!
