The Nut Butter Company Review

I bet you saw the title of this post and immediately clicked on it, because let’s be real, who doesn’t like nut butter?! 😛 The Nut Butter Company is a company I came across on Instagram (check them out at @TheNutButterCompany)! Of course, being an avid lover of all sorts of nut butters, I decided to reach out to the company and ask if they could send some samples for me to review. They were more than willing to do so, so here I am with a review!

I was sent small jars of four of their nut butters: Cashew Honey Dark Chocolate, Walnut Brown Sugar Coconut, Almond Espresso Cinnamon, and Cashew Rosemary Shallot. Below is a short review of each flavor!

Cashew Honey Dark Chocolate:

Immediately when I saw the name of this one, I knew it would be the first one to try! This flavor has a smooth, creamier consistency than the other three in my opinion. I really enjoyed this one because I adore dark chocolate, and this flavor combination was to die for! This was probably one of my favorites of the four.

Walnut Brown Sugar Coconut:

This was the second one I tried. It definitely did not disappoint one bit! Over the past couple years I have taken a liking to the coconut flavor (which I actually used to find disgusting), so I thoroughly enjoyed this butter. The consistency of this one was chunkier than the others — which I really like! Chunks = love. 🙂 This was also one of my favorites of the four butters I received!

Almond Espresso Cinnamon:

I actually only just tried this one yesterday because I’m not a huge fan of the coffee/espresso flavor in general. But earlier this week I decided to try and slowly get myself to like coffee (why I’m doing this, I have no idea :P). That being said, I decided to finally give this one a go! All I have to say is that this flavor was pretty darn good! It has a great flavor ratio, if that makes sense. The consistency of this one was smooth and creamy.

Cashew Rosemary Shallot:

This was the final of the four that I tried, and again, I only just tried it yesterday. Judging by the name, I was a little bit on the leery side. The flavor combo sounded a little different to me for some reason. Although, I’m usually all for trying weird combos because a lot of the time they actually turn out being strange-but-good combos! So with that in mind I went for it. In all honesty, it was probably my least favorite of the group, BUT that doesn’t mean I didn’t like it! This was also more of a smooth consistency, but it seemed a little thicker than the others. But all in all, I enjoyed this flavor, and if you’re into a little extra spice, you will like this flavor!

Finally, I would like to end with an overall review! One thing I really like about these flavors is that they’re unique! They’re not just your regular old peanut butter or almond butter (although sometimes simple tastes amazing)! These are some flavor combinations that I have never thought of before, but I really, really like them!

Again, I truly want to thank everyone over at The Nut Butter Company for their generosity in sending me these samples, and I strongly encourage you to go check them out at http://www.thenutbuttercompany.com/!

Chocolate Protein French Toast Sandwich

Hello everyone! I haven’t posted in a little while, but I’m back and at it with another recipe today!

But before I get to that, I want to tell you something really exciting (well, for me at least! :P) After this past school year I decided to transfer colleges to the state university in my town. I’ve been wanting to go to the gym there for the past month and a half or so and I finally went this morning with my brother! (He he goes to school there too). I’ve been going to the local YMCA since the beginning of the summer because I didn’t realize that I already have access to my school’s gym (because I got my ID about a month ago). The reason it took awhile to try out my school’s gym was because I really wanted to go with my brother the first time, and our schedules finally cooperated today! Anyway, I absolutely lovelovelove this gym! It’s fabulous and I cannot wait to go back!

But before I went to the gym I needed to properly fuel up. 🙂 I decided to make some french toast for my pre-workout breakfast. It turned into a Chocolate Protein French Toast Sandwich! So now what you’ve all (hopefully) been waiting for: the recipe!

Ingredients:

For French Toast:

  • 1/4 cup Milk of Choice (I used skim because it’s what we had on hand)
  • 4 tbsp. Egg Whites
  • 8 drops Dark Chocolate Stevia
  • Cinnamon, to taste
  • 2 slices of Sprouted 7-Grain Bread (like Ezekiel bread), or bread of choice (I used Trader Joe’s brand)

For Sandwich Filling:

  • 2 tbsp. Nonfat Plain Greek Yogurt
  • 1 tbsp. Chocolate Brownie Protein Powder
  • 5 drops Dark Chocolate Stevia
  • Cinnamon, to taste
  • 1/2 Ripe Banana

For Topping:

  • Walden Farms Pancake Syrup
  • Cinnamon

Chia and Flax Seeds

Other Items:

  • Pan or skillet
  • Coconut oil, for greasing the pan

Directions:

  1. Heat pan/skillet on the stove at medium heat. Grease pan with coconut oil.
  2. Soak each slice of bread in the mixture (everything listed in the french toast ingredients above) for 1 minute on each side.
  3. Cook (on medium heat or a little higher) for 2-3 minutes on each side.
  4. While keeping an eye on the french toast, mix together your filling (except banana).
  5. Once the french toast is done cooking, spoon the filling on one slice of french toast and add the banana and second piece of toast.
  6. Cut in half (very messily :P) and top with your toppings.

Savor and enjoy the deliciousness of the french toast because it’ll be gone before you know it!

Chocolate Cherry Protein Waffle

Well folks, here I am again with yet another waffle recipe! Today I did a HIIT workout at home and I planned to refuel with a protein waffle. Starting last night I was trying to decide what kind I would make. For some reason I was having the hardest time, but I finally settled on Chocolate Cherry since we have home-dehydrated cherries in the freezer and fresh cherries in the fridge!

The funny thing is that I used to never like cherries. I only liked cherry flavored things (like fruit snacks). But I finally tried them again a few weeks ago and discovered that I like them!

20140710-111625-40585217.jpg
Recipe:
•1/4 cup Oat Flour
•3 tbsp + 1 tsp Chocolate Protein Powder (I used whey)
•1 egg
•1 tbsp Coconut Water (or just a tad but more if you’d like)
•2 tbsp Dehydrated Bing Cherries (I used ones that my dad dehydrated [which means no yucky additives!])
•A couple drops of Cherry Flavoring (extract or essential oil)

Directions:
1. Turn on waffle iron to preheat.
2. Mix together all ingredients.
3. Spray waffle iron with non-stick cooking spray (I used coconut oil spray).
4. Pour batter into iron once preheated.
5. Top with toppings of choice! I topped mine with Walden Farms Marshmallow Fluff, some fresh Bing Cherries, Walden Farms Pancake Syrup, and Hemp seeds! (I forgot to add cinnamon — gasp!)

Chocolate Peanut Butter Pretzel Protein Waffle

So I’m just going to cut to the chase here: I officially am in love with creating waffle recipes! I may even be unhealthily addicted.

Today was my first day of training for work, so what better way to fuel up than a waffle? (If you said none, you are very much correct 🙂 ). For the past few days I’ve been thinking about making a pretzel-themed waffle and boy, am I glad I tried it! The texture wasn’t 110% perfect, but it definitely was not one bit bad at all! (If that whole comparison even makes sense haha). Either way, I feel that this recipe is worth sharing, so here you have it!

Ingredients:
•1/2 cup Oat Flour
•1 tbsp Chocolate PB2
•2 tbsp Chocolate Protein Powder
•1 tbsp Nonfat Plain Greek Yogurt
•1 tsp Coconut Oil
•5 tbsp Coconut Water
•about 1/4 cup Broken Up Pretzels

Directions:
1. Turn on waffle iron to preheat.
2. Mix together all ingredients. *Make sure you add the pretzel pieces only right before you pour the batter into the waffle iron to prevent them from getting too soggy.*
3. Pour mixture into waffle iron.
4. Top waffle with your desired ingredients! I topped mine with Walden Farms Pancake Syrup, hemp seeds, PB2, cinnamon, and a dollop of Walden Farms Marshmallow Fluff!!

I hope you enjoy this recipe! Let me know what you think if you try it. 🙂
